Revisiting The Drive After A Year
We first saw the Acer Predator GM7000 a year ago, and a lot has changed since then. The number of systems which support PCIe 4.0 has grown, and firmware changes over the months so why not take another look. It still uses the eight channel, 12nm Innogrit IG5236 controller, along with 176-layer Micron B47R NAND flash chips and a 2GB DDR4-2666 cache. Those are protected by the custom designed heatspreader, attached with a graphene-laced foam pad.
For testing The FPS Review used a Ryzen 7 3700X on an ASUS TUF X570 Plus Wi-Fi motherboard. As with the previous look, this is an impressive drive, indeed the fastest they have reviewed to date. The only test it failed to win was 4K random writes, where it outpaced all but the MSI Spatium and Corsair’s MP600. This could be because of the custom heatspreader as the Acer Predator GM7000 was also the hottest drive they’ve tested.
