Occasionally Outstreaming Optane?
The Sabrent Rocket 4 Plus Gaming Edition contains 3D TLC NAND, a specialized Phison controller and some special O₂ GO firmware from Sabrent. The drive is specifically designed to make use of DirectStorage, something we haven’t seen much of as of yet. To start the testing, TweakTown ran Phison’s in-house 20-hour-long DirectStorage texture streaming simulation and never saw a single read disturbance. That test is where the finding it is better than Optane came from, not from other benchmarks.
This 4TB model, which retails for $700 by the way, claims up to 7,400 MB/s and 7,000 MB/s in sequential reads and writes respectively. While not all their testing showed those numbers, CrystalDiskMark did indeed record transfer speeds that matched the PR. Interestingly, the drive liked the GIGABYTE X670E AORUS Master and Ryzen 5 7600X combo for the DiskBench 13GB read as it reached 5,000 MB/s while all the rest topped out around 4,500 MB/s.
This is a beast of a drive but also comes with an impressive pricetag, so read the full review before going out and grabbing one.
