These Newegg prices are within a penny of Amazon, but far more important are the $10 – $20 coupon codes on top of these discounted prices. Suddenly it’s possible to purchase the high-end Ryzen 9 7950X for $554, or the entry-level Ryzen 5 7600X for $239, directly from Newegg after discounts and coupon codes. But are these discounts enough to increase AM5 platform adoption?
I think most of our audience is waiting for similar discounts on AM5 motherboards, as well as significant discounts on DDR5 memory. There are a number of factors at play, including AMD’s decision to embrace PCI Express 5.0, which have driven up the manufacturing costs of these new motherboards compared to the AM4 platform. On the Intel side budget motherboards offering support for Intel 12th and 13th Gen Core CPUs are plentiful, in part due to the fact that inexpensive boards offer DDR4 memory support – which of course also lowers total platform cost.
